Local food waste-into-compost cycle in southern Stockholm

Grace Organic

Grace Organic, a Swedish innovation start-up, has recently installed one of their automatic composting machines in a supermarket in the south of Stockholm. The machine has the capacity to transform 100 kg of organic waste per day into dry, high-grade compost. The goal of this project is to create a sustainable local feedback loop where damaged and discarded food will be turned into high grade compost, that will be then sold back to local urban farmers and residents as nutrition and soil improver, with the added bonus of reducing transport costs and other waste handling costs for the supermarket.
